Job Title: MHPSS Counsellor
Job Location: Leda Camp 24-HP, Teknaf, Cox`s Bazar, Bangladesh
Reports to: Medical Officer-HP.
JOB SUMMARY:
The MHPSS Counsellor provides quality, confidential, and client-centered mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to individuals and families affected by stress, trauma, displacement, violence, loss, and other psychosocial challenges. The role focuses on counselling, psychosocial assessment, PFA, referral, case follow-up, and community-based MHPSS activities. and ensuring smooth implementation of the project activities under the supervision of the Medical Officer-HP.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
He/ She will devote time as per the following broad headings:
• Clinical Provide individual and group counselling using appropriate, evidence-informed approaches.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments and identify clients’ needs, concerns, risks, and available support systems.
• Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) during crisis and emergency situations.
• Support clients experiencing stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, emotional distress, and family or social difficulties.
• Develop appropriate support plans and conduct regular follow-up sessions.
• Identify high-risk and complex cases and ensure safe and timely referral to specialized mental-health, medical, protection, or other services.
• Provide basic psychoeducation on stress management, coping mechanisms, mental-health awareness, and available services.
• Conduct community outreach, awareness sessions, and group psychosocial activities.
• Maintain strict confidentiality, informed consent, professional boundaries, and safeguarding principles.
• Maintain accurate case notes, referral records, activity reports, and relevant program documentation.
• Coordinate with MHPSS, Protection, Health, and other relevant teams while protecting client confidentiality.
• Participate in supervision, case discussions, training, coordination meetings, and capacity-building activities.
• Support the development and implementation of MHPSS activities according to project guidelines and organizational standards.
• Immediately follow established procedures for safeguarding, protection, suicide/self-harm risk, violence, abuse, or other serious safety concerns.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology/Counselling Psychology, Social Work preferably with training or experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).
· Professional counselling or psychosocial-support training is desirable.
· Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an advantage.
· Training in MHPSS, trauma-informed care, safeguarding, GBV, child protection, or case management can be an additional advantage.
· Relevant experience in counselling or psychosocial support.
· Experience working with vulnerable or crisis-affected populations.
· At least 2-year(s) experience in NGO/INGO or humanitarian programs is advantageous in community engagement,
· Basic orientation on public health promotion for refugee camp
· Good communication skill in Bangla, English and Rohingya Language
· Experience in training facilitation and strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels.
· Experience working at the Rohingya Refugee camp is needed.
· Demonstrated experience of working closely with other health providers.
· Working experience in an NGO/INGO is an asset
· Effective presentation of relevant information (oral & written)
· Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor and be mentally ready to work beyond the normal working hours in an emergency.
· Must have a willingness to serve the refugee community
· Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor and must be ready to accept additional responsibilities as given by the supervisor and ready to work beyond working hours, at times, for the greater interest of the organization as and when needed
